| Weekend Edit · April 30, 2026 Gird Your Loins. It Is May. The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens tomorrow. The Flower Moon rises tomorrow. Restaurant Week starts tomorrow. April closes tonight. Tomorrow, May 1, the corridor turns the page. Dubai Restaurant Week launches tomorrow morning: 125 restaurants, Dhs125 lunch, Dhs250 dinner, through May 17. One of the best value propositions on the corridor. Elsewhere on the route: The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens in cinemas tomorrow, May 1. 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. 222 million trailer views. BEEF Season 2 is Netflix number one. Patrick Radden Keefe's new book about a teenager who invented a Russian oligarch identity and fell to his death in the Thames is in its second week on the New York Times bestseller list. SilQRoute Times covers the new Silk Road: London, New York, Casablanca, Lagos, Cairo, Riyadh, Dubai, Doha, Nairobi, Kigali, Cape Town, Mumbai, Singapore and beyond. Where capital moves, where culture is made, where the next economy is being built. This is your weekend paper. The corridor turns the page. May. | | The Corridor This Weekend | |
🇶🇦 Doha The Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition runs through Sunday May 3 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. One of the most significant luxury trade events on the corridor, not the flashiest marketing exercise but the one where actual decisions get made. The Design Doha Biennale continues through June 30. The Qatar Economic Forum is two weeks away, May 12 to 14. Doha is in conference mode. Walk the waterfront at dusk instead. It has not changed. It never does. |
🇦🇪 Dubai Dubai Restaurant Week opens tomorrow, May 1. 125 restaurants taking part, lunch Dhs125, dinner Dhs250, running through May 17. From Lowe to City Social. This is the last manageable weekend before the summer heat arrives and the city changes tempo. Global Village closes on May 10 after its 30th season. Enrico Macias plays Dubai Opera on Saturday evening. The Ripe Market is at Academy Park, Friday to Sunday, free entry. The corridor has five good months of outdoor living to remember before June makes such things academic. |
🇦🇪 Abu Dhabi Louvre Abu Dhabi. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Both open, both worth the drive from Dubai on a Friday morning before the temperature reaches its afternoon argument. |
🇸🇦 Riyadh The Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale closes this Saturday, May 2. This is the last weekend at JAX District. Theme: "In Interludes and Transitions." Free entry. Lebanese singer Ons BouKettaya performs tomorrow, May 1. A Lebanese Night with Antika Band is also on. The Biennale and the concert circuit in the same city on the same Friday is exactly what Vision 2030 has been building toward. 70% of this country is under 35. They are not waiting for anyone's permission to arrive. |
🇧🇭 Bahrain Spring of Culture 2026, the 20th edition of Bahrain's flagship arts festival, runs through May across multiple venues. Music evenings, theatrical performances, exhibitions, and cultural programmes from embassies of China, France, India, Italy and Palestine. Bahrain is the corridor city that has hosted the world's trade routes for five thousand years. The Adliya neighbourhood on a Friday evening is the dining and gallery circuit that proves the island still knows how to bring the best of those routes into one small postcode. Muharraq, Bahrain's first capital, deserves the afternoon. |
🇨🇪 Cairo The Cairo Tower. Al-Azhar Park at golden hour. Cairo is building Africa's tallest tower. The city that built the original wonders is not done building. |
🇸🄎 Cape Town Comic Con Cape Town runs through Sunday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Gaming, cosplay, film activations, comics. Cape Town in autumn: 20 degrees, dry, no tourists. The southern end of the corridor, and the one the route most underestimates. |
🇳🇬 Lagos Nigeria's first-ever business stage play, "Unserious Business," opens at Alliance Française de Lagos on Saturday May 2. 220 million people. The largest economy in Africa. Lagos moves at its own frequency and on its own schedule, and the corridor rarely covers it the way it deserves. |
🇰🇪 Nairobi Karura Forest at dawn. East Africa's fastest-growing tech ecosystem. AIEVERYTHING KENYA at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on May 19. Nairobi is the corridor's gateway to the continent's interior. The GCC knows this. Investment flows in both directions. |
🇮🇳 Mumbai IPL 2026 continues this weekend. Chennai Super Kings host Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, May 2. The stakes are real: MI have been underperforming, Hardik Pandya said this week "we have not been able to do what Mumbai Indians stands for," and Mitchell Santner is out with a shoulder injury, replaced by South Africa's Keshav Maharaj. The first-generation professional, 22 to 35, is watching from wherever they are. They always are. |
🇸🇬 Singapore Tulipmania at the Flower Dome through May 17, inspired by the Dutch Masters. JENNIE's pop-up at Wisma Atria opens Saturday. May 1 is a public holiday: a three-day weekend, managed with Singapore's characteristic rigour. Median age 42. Most efficient city on the corridor at doing nothing productively. |
🇬🇧 London May bank holiday weekend. The Gulf diaspora in Mayfair and Edgware Road has three days. Ranoush Juice until 3am. 37% of London was born outside the UK. No publisher serves that duality. Except this one. |
🇺🇸 New York BEEF Season 2 is the number one show on Netflix globally and it is set in a California country club, but the class dynamics it describes are pure New York. Olivia Rodrigo is at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, her fourth chart-topper, making her the only artist to debut lead singles from three consecutive albums at the top. The city that made both of them possible is doing what it does on a spring Friday: moving fast and leaving no explanation. |

| Where to Eat L'Abysse, One&Only The Palm, Dubai The Route in a Tasting Menu Three addresses preceded this one: Paris, Monaco, Osaka. Yannick Alléno now has a fourth: a 10-seat counter at One&Only The Palm, opened April 2026. Japanese-French omakase. Alléno's technique is French. The discipline is Japanese. The Dubai kitchen holds both. Paris to Monaco to Osaka to Dubai. Not a route most restaurateurs would have drawn. Exactly the kind of route this publication covers every morning. Travel Fly with Haifa · Haifa Beseisso · Dubai-based Palestinian creator who asks the people of every country she visits what they dream about. The premise sounds simple. The videos are not. Travel content that treats the corridor as a human project, not a highlight reel. Science El Da7ee7 · Ibrahim El-Ghandour · Egyptian biologist turned YouTube phenomenon. Uses humour to explain science, history, and global systems to an Arab-speaking audience. One of the most-watched Arabic-language education channels in the world. The corridor needs more of this. Huda Beauty, Wishful Skin, Kayali fragrance. In Q1 2026, "Kayali Oud Royale Intense 50" sold out across GCC Sephora stores in 48 hours. That is a corridor founder story. The channel documents it from the inside. |
